Best Things to do in La Jolla, San Diego

La Jolla is often referred to as the “Jewel of San Diego” and is renowned for beautiful coastline, marine life sightings, and upscale cultural scene for entertainment and dining.

Coastal Exploration & Wildlife

The coastline of La Jolla is one of its most famous features offering opportunities for visitors to see marine animals in their natural habitat.

La Jolla Cove is a quintessential San Diego experience and a must see if you are visiting San Diego.

To see the entire area we recommend to start from the Coast Walk Trial entering from Torrey Pines Rd and taking this trail all the way to La Jolla Cove.  Along this trail you will have a perfect view of La Jolla Shores Beach and the northern coastline of La Jolla.  As you descend to the cove you will see:

·      Sea Lions will be sunbathing on the rocks and swimming in the water

·      A prime spot for snorkeling, scuba, and kayaking around the La Jolla Underwater Park.

·      Beautiful sunsets if you take the walk late in the afternoon.

If you continue south along the coast you will arrive at the Children’s Pool La Jolla.  This was originally built as a safe swimming area that has since become a protected sanctuary for seals.

·      A long seawall allows visitors to walk out and get a closer look at marine life and to take photos.

After visiting the coast the next best stop is the Village of La Jolla.  The Village is the historic heart of the community known for boutique and high end commerce.  There are two main streets, Girard Ave and Prospect Street which are lined with shops, world class art galleries, and famous restaurants.

Finally you can’t leave La Jolla without visiting Bird Rock, a laid back neighborhood south of La Jolla Village.  Instead of streets packed with tourists you will find the area filled with local residents meeting for coffee or to eat with friends.

Must visits on the “Boulevard”

·      Bird Rock Coffee Roasters:  Award winning coffee brand and a community staple where you’ll see neighbors hanging out all throughout the day.

·      Beaumont’s:  Upscale casual spot for brunch, burgers, and live music at night.

·      Don Bravo: Solid tacos with an ocean view.

Scenic Spots and Surf Culture:

·      Calumet Park: This sits on the bluff’s edge and is a popular spot for weddings, yoga, or just sitting to the Bird Rock surf.

·      Bird Rock Surf Shop: A neighborhood institution that reinforces the areas deep roots in Southern California surf culture.

To experience the best of La Jolla with total ease, exploring the coast in a rented golf cart from Beach Mode Rentals is the ultimate way to see it all. Navigating from the sea lions at the Cove to the laid-back streets of Bird Rock is seamless when you don’t have to worry about the difficult parking when driving a car. A golf cart allows you to feel the ocean breeze as you cruise between the historic Village and the scenic bluffs of Calumet Park, making the transit between a morning coffee and an afternoon taco part of the adventure. It’s the most convenient and stylish way to soak in the local surf culture while ensuring you don’t miss a single highlight along the coastline.
